Become an ABAI Director FAQs

• What is the timeframe to apply for the ABAI Director Self-Nomination?

  The application will be open June 29th through August 15th.

• When will I be notified of my status?

  You will receive communication from the board upon receiving your application.

• How long will I be required to serve as a Director?

  Directors will serve a six (6) year term which is dependent on “Meeting MOC requirements” before and during their term.

• How many Directors will be elected?

  It depends on the need. Some circumstances may require more than two directors to be elected in a particular year.

• Do Directors receive CME credit?

  We are unable to grant CME credit for being a Director.

• Are Directors exempt from any MOC activities?

  Directors are exempt from taking CAP while on the Board, and two (2) years after serving on the Board. However, please note Directors are required to be “Meeting MOC Requirements” throughout their term on the Board and current in MOC Parts I, II and IV while serving on the Board.

• Will I receive an honorarium?

  Directors will receive honorarium while serving on the Board.

• Is ABAI paying for travel expenses?

  Yes. Travel expenses directly related to Director duties will be reimbursed.

• Who is responsible for making my travel arrangements?

  Directors are responsible for their own travel arrangements.

• Will I receive training?

  Yes, you will receive orientation training and will be provided updates on ABAI standards, programs, responsibilities and initiatives throughout your tenure.
