Continuing Medical Education
Continuing Medical Education (CME)
Diplomates must attest to obtaining 25 hours of CME in Allergy/Immunology annually from accredited organizations in order to fulfill the lifelong learning and self-assessment component of MOC. It is suggested but not required that of the 25 credits 6 be in a Self-Assessment CME activity. Recognizing state licensing and institutional requirements and in the desire to reduce redundancy in demands upon physicians, ABAI will accept up to six CME credits for non-self-directed state and institutional mandated CME activities (i.e. pain management, HIV, elder abuse, substance abuse). CME credits can be earned from events and modules sponsored by accredited organizations. Contact each organization directly for further information about ways to earn credits.
Please note that only AMA PRA Category 1 Credit(s)TM in will be accepted.
Organizations Offering Allergy/Immunology CME Credits Include:
- American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology
- American Academy of Pediatrics, Section of Allergy & Immunology
- American Association of Immunologists
- American College of Allergy Asthma & Immunology
- American College of Physicians
- American College of Rheumatology
- American Medical Association
- Clinical Immunology Society
For a complete listing, contact the American Medical Association.
Instructions for Reporting CME Credits
- Attest to Completion. Copies of CME certificates are no longer submitted to the ABAI office. Diplomates are required to log onto their ABAI Web portal page and attest to completing 25 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits in Allergy/Immunology annually.
- Verification. ABAI will audit 10% of diplomates annually and review their completed CME documentation for the previous year. Credits earned and submitted to the ABAI by sponsoring organizations will be excluded from the audit process. This means that if a diplomate were to earn all 25 required credits through an ABAI sponsoring organization that supplies automated CME reports, that diplomate would be excluded from the audit pool.
CME Credit for Certification
ABAI diplomates who successfully complete the Certification exam are eligible to receive AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM from the American Medical Association (AMA). For additional information contact the AMA.
CME Credit for MOC Program Completion
ABAI diplomates who have completed the ABAI MOC program in 2014 and going forward, will automatically receive the American Medical Association (AMA) Certificate of CME Credit (60 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM) from the AMA for completion of the ABAI MOC Program courtesy of the ABAI. ABAI will complete the paperwork, submit payment and the certificate will be emailed to the preferred email address on the diplomate's ABAI Web Portal Page.
